Southern Miss Ends Run at Sun Belt Golf Championships

POINT CLEAR, Ala. -- The Southern Miss women's golf team had its run at the Sun Belt Championships come to an end on Wednesday at Lakewood Golf Club. The Golden Eagles finished eighth at the event, while the top four finishers advanced to match-play rounds on Thursday.Â
Louise Cuyvers finished in fourth place in Point Clear, shooting a two-under 70 in her final round. She posted a trio of birdies and had an eagle on the first hole of the course. Fernanda Gorostiaga shot a two-over 74 that featured four birdies. Gorostiaga's round placed her in 46th, while Taylor Trible posted a three-over 75 to finish in a tie for 28th.Â
Savannah Van Gaalen also posted a three-over 75, finishing in a tie for 33rd. Van Gaalen brought the Golden Eagles' total eagles to three on the week, shooting a three on the par-five fifth hole. Alma Betoret was used as a sub for Southern Miss and shot an 11-over 83.Â
The 294 team score was two strokes off Tuesday's 292 and was tied for the fifth-best round on the day. ULM. South Alabama and Texas State advanced to the match play portion of the event as the top three seeds. Old Dominion and Coastal Carolina went into a playoff, where the Monarchs went even-par as a team in the playoff to advance as the fourth seed.Â
