Golden Eagles Wrap Up First Day of Sun Belt Championships

POINT CLEAR, Ala. -- The Southern Miss women's golf team finished the first 18 holes of the Sun Belt Championships on Monday at Lakewood Golf Club in Point Clear, Ala.
Louise Cuyvers provided the low score of the day for the Golden Eagles as the junior shot two-over par. Her 74 featured four birdies, with two on both the front and back nine. Savannah Van Gaalen and Taylor Trible both shot a five-over 77, which puts them tied for 40th.
Fernanda Gorostiaga posted three birdies en route to an eight-over 80 — two of her birdies came on the back nine. Liv Romer finished with an 84 to round out the Southern Miss round. As a team, Southern Miss had 10 birdies, while Cuyvers' four led the way.
App State leads the field at three-under par. ULM, Texas State, Coastal Carolina, Old Dominion, and South Alabama finish out the top five — Old Dominion and South Alabama are tied for fifth. The Golden Eagles are in 12th after shooting a 308 team score.
Southern Miss will start the second round on Tuesday at 8 a.m. Romer will be the first to tee off on the 10th hole, with the rest of the lineup following in nine-minute increments.
