Track and Field Travels to Compete in Georgia Tech Invitational

HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Southern Miss Track and Field heads down to Atlanta to compete in the Georgia Tech Invitational Friday and Saturday.
Friday's hammer throw will begin at 11:30 a.m., with the women's 5000m will close out the day at 9:15 p.m. Saturday's field events will start at noon, accompanied by track events beginning at 1 p.m., with all events accompanied by a rolling schedule. The two-day meet will be held at the George C. Griffin Track.
Last time out, the team recorded five podium finishes and multiple top-eight finishes at the Crimson Tide Invitational on Friday in Tuscaloosa. Women's Track Athlete of The Week Kennedi Sanders led the way with a third-place finish in the 400 meters (53.12), while Sanders also ran a leg on the third-place 4x400-meter relay team alongside Valencia Watson, McLaurin and Taliyah Lindsay, combining for a time of 3:42.01. In distance events, Emme Bates placed third in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:20.72. On the men's side, Men's Track Athlete of the Week Javel Fullerton recorded a runner-up finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 50.93, while DeAundre Ward placed second in the long jump with a mark of 7.25 meters.
