Beach Volleyball Closes Regular Season at NOLA Classic

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss beach volleyball travels to White Sands in Elmwood, La., for the two-day NOLA Classic in the Golden Eagles' final regular season duals. Southern Miss (12-17, 3-1 Sun Belt) takes on FIU (9-14, 2-1 Conference USA), New Orleans (13-13, 3-3 Southland), ULM (6-21, 1-4 Sun Belt) and (RV) Tulane (19-11, 1-4 Conference USA) with action beginning on Friday, April 17.

Southern Miss opens the weekend against FIU at 8:30 a.m. for the third meeting between the two programs. FIU leads the all-time series 2-0 and took the most recent meeting 4-1 on Feb. 28, 2025. The Panthers are 9-15 overall and 2-1 in Conference USA duals after a 1-3 finish at the Boise State Beach Bash last week.
FIU fell to No. 11 Grand Canyon, No. 19 Boise State and Washington before taking a 3-2 win over conference rival South Florida to end the trip to Boise, Idaho. Lauren DeTurk is in her first season leading the Panthers after a five season tenure at NAIA's Saint Katherine (San Marcos, Calif.) cut short by the university's closing.
Friday's second dual sees the Golden Eagles take on New Orleans at 11 a.m. The Privateers stand at 13-13 overall and 3-3 in Southland Conference play ahead of the final regular season contests. The winner of the dual will take a lead in the overall series, which stands at 7-7 overall after three consecutive Golden Eagle wins in 2025.
UNO finished 2-2 at the Battle on the Bayou in Baton Rouge with wins over Texas A&M-Kingsville and Spring Hill and losses to Southeastern and Central Arkansas. Head coach Ryan Havice is in his second season leading the Privateers after taking over last season.

A win seals a tie for second place in the overall standings with Georgia State though Southern Miss is assured of the third overall seed in the 2026 Sun Belt Beach Volleyball Championship. Southern Miss is 2-0 against the Warhawks this season after two wins at home at the Spring Break Slam.
ULM is 6-21 overall and 1-4 in Sun Belt Conference play ahead of the NOLA Classic and finished 1-3 at last week's Blazer Beach Bash in Birmingham, Ala., with a win over SBC foe Mercer and losses to UAB, Houston Christian and Tulane. Head coach Baylee Young is in her second year leading the Warhawks overall while Southern Miss leads the all-time series against ULM 10-3.

The Green Wave are 19-11 overall and 1-4 in C-USA action ahead of hosting the final regular season tourney. The Golden Eagles are looking to take their first-ever win over Tulane as the Green Wave lead the all-time series 18-0 and 5-0 at White Sands. Southern Miss has pushed the Green Wave to a 3-2 final in the last three meetings, including earlier this season.
The Green Wave finished 3-1 at the Blazer Beach Bash last weekend, falling to C-USA foe UAB and taking victories over Houston Christian, Mercer and ULM. Tulane head man Eyal Zimet is in his seventh season Uptown and is just five wins away from 150 career victories at Tulane.
