Golden Eagles Sweep First Day of Spring Break Slam

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss beach volleyball (5-14, 0-0 Sun) opened day one of the Spring Break Slam with back-to-back sweeps over Spring Hill and ULM at the Southern Miss Beach Volleyball Complex. The Golden Eagles dropped just one set on the day en route to their 5-0 decisions to open their home tournament 2-0.
The Spring Break Slam concludes tomorrow, March 21, with three more duals at the Beach Volleyball Complex. ULM and Spring Hill open the day at 9 a.m. with Southern Miss taking on ULM at 11:15 a.m. and ending the weekend against Spring Hill at 1:30 p.m. The Golden Eagles will celebrate their seniors following the final dual of the day.
Southern Miss 5, Spring Hill 0
The Golden Eagles opened the day with a dominating victory over Spring Hill (6-4, 0-0 DI Independent) to make it nine-straight Southern Miss wins in the series. Southern Miss now leads the all-time series 12-7 and 8-4 in Hattiesburg. The Golden Eagles finished 10-0 in sets across the board and won each set by at least four points.
Y-Nho Do (Cary, N.C.) and Iustina Corcoz (Bucharest, Romania) got the Golden Eagles on the board with a two-set win at the fourth pairing. Ryann Thomas (Georgetown, Ky.) and Margarita Grigoreva (Moscow, Russia) followed closely behind with another two-set win at the 5s.
Jaden White (West Palm Beach, Fla.) and Kitija Martini Adamsone (Marupe, Latvia) clinched the win for Southern Miss with another quick two sets as the Golden Eagles' third pairing. Laurel Dennis (Gulfport, Miss.) and Sadie McAda (Pleasanton, Texas) swept the top flight to make it 4-0 in favor of Southern Miss before Kenzie Boyd (Hattiesburg, Miss.) and Zuzanna Michalska (Warsaw, Poland) finished off the 5-0 sweep with at the second pairing to give Southern Miss a 1-0 start at home.

Southern Miss picked up where it left off, sweeping the first wave of play with Thomas pairing with Giovanna Gurgel Bahia (Recife, Brazil) at the fives to lead of the scoring. Do and Corcoz completed the first wave with a two-set sweep of their own.
White and Adamsone again served as the deciding pair in the dual, clinching things for Southern Miss with two sets to play. Michalska was rejoined by her usual partner Abby Lewis (The Woodlands, Texas) at the second flight against ULM, fighting to two tough decisions to win 22-20 and 24-22.
The Golden Eagles' top flight of Dennis and McAda dropped their first set against the Warhawk 1s, 21-23, and needed to roll back-to-back set wins to clinch the 5-0 decision. Dennis/McAda did just that, winning the second set 21-19 and third set 15-10 to finish 2-0 on the day. The pair's first set loss was the only set lost by Golden Eagle pairs on the day.
