Beach Volleyball Returns Home to Host Spring Break Slam

Faculty & Staff Appreciate Day on Friday; Senior Day on Saturday
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss (3-14, 0-0 Sun Belt) returns to the Hub City to host its only home tournament, the Spring Break Slam. The Golden Eagles welcome Spring Hill (6-3, 0-0 NCAA Independent) and ULM (3-8, 0-0 Sun Belt) for the two-day tournament beginning on Friday, March 20, for a total of six duals.
Admission is free to all beach volleyball events. Southern Miss will celebrate Faculty and Staff Appreciation Day on Friday with Southern Miss faculty and staff eligible to enter to win a giveaway at the marketing table. Saturday's matches see the Golden Eagles close out the homestand with Senior Day for three Golden Eagles immediately following the final dual against Spring Hill.
Fans planning to attend the weekend's action should note that baseball parking will be in effect in the M.K. Turk Circle, Wellness Center Lot and portions of Payne Center Lot and that regular parking restrictions will be in effect on campus until 4:30 p.m. Friday.
Southern Miss opens the weekend on Friday at 1:30 p.m. with a dual against Spring Hill. The Golden Eagles are 11-7 all-time against the Sandy Badgers and have played Spring Hill every season since starting a program in 2019. Southern Miss enters this weekend having won the last eight games of the series and stands at 7-4 against SHC in Hattiesburg. In total, Southern Miss will play two duals against Spring Hill with the final set for 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
Sixth-year Southern Miss head coach Shawn Taylor spent three seasons in Mobile, Ala., leading the Sandy Badgers before taking over in Hattiesburg. Golden Eagle assistant coach Kassandra Fairly earned nine total letters at Spring Hill as a five-year indoor and beach volleyball standout. Current Spring Hill head coach Sarah Senft and Fairly were both student-athletes under Taylor during his tenure.
The Golden Eagles will also take on Sun Belt Conference foe ULM for two duals this weekend, though neither will officially count to either team's conference record. ULM is led by second-year head coach Baylee Young, who debuted in Monroe, La., with a 13-22 record. Young led Webber International to national NAIA acclaim for two seasons before making the move to the Bayou.
Southern Miss leads the all-time series 8-3 since the first meeting in 2020. The two teams have been conference members since 2021 when ULM joined the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association and continued conference play into Conference USA in 2022 and the Sun Belt in 2023. The two teams have split the last four meetings over the prior two seasons with ULM handing Southern Miss a 4-1 loss in last year's Sun Belt Conference Tournament.
