Women's Golf Ends Day One of Magnola Collegiate in Sixth Place

MOBILE, Ala. -- The Southern Miss women's golf team battled a chilly, windy day at the Magnolia Collegiate en route to a sixth-place finish through the first two rounds. The Golden Eagles are four strokes back of fifth place at the Robert Trent Jones Magnolia Grove Crossings Course in Mobile, Ala., while Taylor Trible is in a tie for 18th.
First 18 Holes - T5th
Playing as an individual, Morgan Guepet delivered the third-lowest round of her Golden Eagle career with an even-par 72. It was the low Southern Miss round over the first 18 holes, which had her in third place. Taylor Trible aided Southern Miss with a two-over 74 that featured a pair of birdies, while Liv Romer shot a four-over 76. Louise Cuyvers added a five-over 77, which featured only one bogey on the front nine.Â
Fernanda Gorostiaga (78), Savannah Van Gaalen (80), and Alma Betoret (82) rounded out the Golden Eagle lineup. The 17-over, 305, placed Southern Miss in a tie for fifth with Stetson after one round. Lipscomb led the field, while West Georgia, South Alabama, and James Madison rounded out the top of the pack.Â
Second 18 Holes - 6thÂ
Gorostiaga and Van Gaalen both shot a three-over 75, while Gorostiaga is in a tie for 24th. Cuyvers netted a pair of birdies in her afternoon round en route to a four-over 76 that placed her in a tie for 24th. As a team, Southern Miss fired a 16-over, 304 in the afternoon round.Â
Betoret (77), Trible (78), and Romer (78) finished off the Golden Eagles for day two. Southern Miss combined for 19 birdies through the 36 holes played, with Romer and Trible both having four on the day.Â
Through the first day of play, West Georgia and Lipscomb are tied for first at 23-over par. South Alabama, Stetson, and James Madison cap the front five. There is a three-way tie for first with the pack tied at three-over par, and there is another three-way tie in a group that is five-over par.Â
