HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Junior Louise Cuyvers was awarded the Sun Belt Women's Golfer of the Week following her efforts at the Hattiesburg Country Club during The Judson on Oct. 26-27.
Cuyvers, a native of Lincent, Belgium, won the individual title with a 54-hole total of 204, finishing at 12-under-par with a stroke average of 68. She opened Monday with a five-under 67, followed with a three-under 69 to take a three-stroke lead through 36 holes, and closed Tuesday with a four-under 68 to finish six strokes clear of runner-up Mercedes Aldana of South Alabama. Her 204 is the lowest 54-hole score of her career, seven strokes better than the 211 she shot at The Lady Clerico last season.
Cuyvers led the field with 18 birdies, including six in each round. She also birdied the par-5 ninth hole in all three rounds. In the opening round, she bounced back from a bogey on the first hole with three straight birdies on holes 10-12 to shoot a back-nine 32 on her way to a 67. In the final round, she made four birdies on the front nine and two on the back; her 33 on the front marks the low nine of her day.
She also topped the field in scoring average on par 4s (3.83) and par 5s (4.50) and tied for the best par-3 average (2.92).
Cuyvers led Southern Miss to a second-place team finish at 13-over, behind champion South Alabama. The Golden Eagles improved after a pair of six-over rounds to open the event, finishing the final round at one-over.
