Southern Miss Completes Final Road Matches Before Home Tournament

DELAND, Fla. – Southern Miss (3-14, 0-0 Sun Belt) wrapped up a 17-game road trip to begin the 2026 season with three duals at the Stetson Spring Invitational and looks to return home for the first and only home tournament of the campaign. The Golden Eagles dropped a 4-1 decision to Texas A&M – Corpus Christi (7-8, 0-0 Southland) before falling in back-to-back nailbiters against (RV) Florida Gulf Coast (9-7, 0-0 Atlantic Sun) and North Alabama (7-7, 0-0 Atlantic Sun).
Texas A&M – Corpus Christi 4, Southern Miss 1
Southern Miss dropped its first dual of the day against perennial contender Texas A&M – Corpus Christi with the Islanders taking the 4-1 decision. Jaden White (West Palm Beach, Fla.) and Kitija Martini Adamsone (Marupe, Latvia) picked up Southern Miss' only point at the third pairing, taking both sets in 24-22 and 21-17 fashion.
However, the Golden Eagles were within striking distance as top flight pairing Laurel Dennis (Gulfport, Miss.) and Sadie McAda (Pleasanton, Texas) fell in three sets to the Islanders' top duo while Y-Nhu Do (Cary, N.C.) and Iustina Corcoz (Bucharest, Romania) fell by a combined four points in their two-set decision at the fourth pairing.

Southern Miss took Florida Gulf Coast to the wire in the Golden Eagles' second dual of the day. The Eagles, who received votes in this week's AVCA Coaches Poll, took the first two points of the dual before the Golden Eagles evened things up with wins from Zuzanna Michalska (Warsaw, Poland) and Abby Lewis (The Woodlands, Texas) at the second pairing and Giovanna Gurgel Bahia (Recife Brazil) and Margarita Grigoreva (Moscow, Russia) at the fives.
All eyes swung to the top flight battle, where Dennis/McAda took the opening set 21-19 and were in the second set. The Eagles pushed things to a third set after taking set two 25-23. FGCU closed out the third set to seal the win 15-13 in the third.

Things again went to the wire in the rematch against North Alabama. The Lions took the first meeting between the two squads 3-2 in Baton Rouge, La., two weeks ago. North Alabama got on the board with a win at the top flight, with Dennis/McAda falling by a combined four points. Do/Johnson evened things up with a two-set win at the fourth pairing while Michalska/Lewis gave Southern Miss the advantage with a two-set win at the second flight.
UNA's third pairing held on a for a 26-24 win the in the first set of their game against White/Adamsone and tied the overall dual with a 21-18 second set win. The fifth flight decided the overall dual with Bahia/Margarita splitting the first two sets with the Lions. Another close third set came down to a two-point final with North Alabama's Lucy Wedding and Emma White taking the set and dual for the Lions in a 15-13 third set final.
