Beach Volleyball Set for Stetson Spring Invitational

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss (3-9, 0-0 Sun Belt) heads to DeLand, Fla., to compete in the Stetson Spring Invitational for five duals from March 13-14. The Golden Eagles will take on UAB and No. 15 Stetson on Friday and close the tournament against Texas A&M – Corpus Christi, (RV) Florida Gulf Coast and North Alabama on Saturday.

UAB enters the weekend with a 7-6 overall record in 2026 after a 1-3 trip to the west coast for the Long Beach Invitational last week. The Blazers fell to No. 11 Long Beach State, Santa Clara and No. 9 Loyola Marymount before ending the weekend with a win over Cal State Bakersfield.
Head coach Delaney Clesen is in her third season in Birmingham with a 47-33 record leading the Blazers. UAB finished last season 21-12 overall and 3-2 in Conference USA, falling to FIU in the C-USA Tournament.
Southern Miss is 1-8 all-time against UAB, last defeating the Blazers on April 23, 2021, in the CCSA Tournament. Since then, UAB has won the last five meetings, though the two teams have not played since April 13, 2024.

Fifteenth-ranked Stetson holds an 11-5 overall record after splitting four matches at the Long Beach Invitational last weekend and a 1-1 performance on yesterday in pre-tournament action against No.7 Florida State and Texas A&M – Corpus Christi.
Stetson head coach Kristina Hernandez is in her 11th season leading the hatters with eight seasons of 20-plus wins under her belt. Stetson finished last season 23-11 to give her a 223-114 record through 10 full seasons. The Hatters fell to North Florida in the ASUN Championship to conclude their 2025 season.
Southern Miss is 0-2 all-time against Stetson and 0-1 in DeLand, after playing the Hatters twice in the 2024 season. Southern Miss nearly knocked off the 17th-ranked Hatters in a 3-2 loss at Georgia State's GSU Beach Volleyball Complex.

The Islanders are 5-7 after falling to Florida State and Stetson in pre-tournament action Wednesday and split their two scheduled matches at the TCU Invitational last week, falling to Florida Gulf Coast and sweeping Houston Christian.
Gayle Stammer is in her 10th season leading A&MCC and holds a 141-107 record as the Islanders head coach. A regular contender for the NCAA Tournament, Corpus finished the 2025 season 22-13 overall and 7-1 in Southland play. The Islanders fell to top-seeded Boise State in the Southland Conference Championship to end the year.
