Golden Eagles Sit in Fifth Through 18 Holes at More Than Golf Invitational

AIKEN, S.C. -- The Southern Miss women's golf team is fifth through one round at the More Than Golf Invitational at Old Barnwell Golf Club. Louise Cuyvers posted the low Golden Eagle score and is tied for fifth on the individual leaderboard.Â
Cuyvers fired an even-par 73 on Sunday, posting four birdies. She went into the turn at two-over par before recording a pair of birdies down the stretch — Cuyvers had a double bogey right before the turn that slid her back for a bit. After recovering from that, she had those two birdies and played clean golf the rest of the way. Liv Romer shot a one-over 74 and had birdies on both the front and back nine. Romer is tied for tenth heading into Monday's second round.Â
Savannah Van Gaalen and Fernanda Gorostiaga both shot a five-over 78. After a double bogey and back-to-back bogeys, Van Gaalen carded an eagle on hole 15. She also had a birdie on hole seven, which was after starting her round on the tenth hole. Gorostiaga had a stretch of two birdies in four holes but also had a double bogey and bogey in that span. Taylor Trible had one birdie on the day as she shot a six-over 79.Â
Columbia leads the field at one-under par, while Tulsa, Denver, Radford, and Southern Miss round out the top five. Cuyvers is four back from Kristina Xu of Columbia. Trible will be the first Golden Eagle off the tee box at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow. The rest of the Southern Miss lineup will follow in 10-minute increments.Â
