Baseball Returns to Road for Weekend Series at Louisiana Tech

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The nationally ranked Southern Miss baseball team returns to action this weekend when they travel to Ruston to face Louisiana Tech in a weekend conference series. The series opens on Friday at 6 p.m., from J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park.
All three games can be seen via ESPN+ as well as heard on an affiliate of the Southern Miss Sports Network.
The No. 12-ranked Golden Eagles (7-1) have reeled off seven-straight victories after its 14-4 midweek home victory over Alabama Tuesday night. Both Ben Higdon and Kyle Morrison hit grand slams in that contest as Southern Miss has belted 11 long balls over the first eight games.
The team has seen its team batting average rise to .287, behind solid hitting efforts during the early going which includes a .444 average from current Sun Belt Player of the Week Joey Urban, left fielder Davis Gillespie at .367, along with a .290 mark from Kyle Morrison as well as Matthew Russo who is hitting .286 with nine RBI. Seth Smith is also enjoying a strong start to the season by collecting nine hits in his first 12 at bats.
Southern Miss will utilize its same rotation for the third consecutive weekend as they will throw the trio of right-hander Colby Allen (0-1, 2.70 ERA), left-hander Grayden Harris (1-0, 6.75 ERA) and righty McCarty English (0-0, 3.60 ERA) in that order.
Louisiana Tech starts the season with an 8-1 record, having won four in a row, including two over Ohio State last weekend, one over Memphis and a midweek triumph over Northwestern State.
The two teams have played 67 games in a series that dates back to 1922 with the Golden Eagles holding a 39-27-1, including two of three victories in each of the last two series played over the past two seasons at each home ballpark.
