HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss put together a strong three match homestand, bouncing back from a Friday setback to finish the stretch with two straight 4-0 wins and a confident response on the home courts. The Golden Eagles showed growth across the weekend, settling in during doubles and using depth in singles to close points quickly when chances were there.
McNeese grabbed the early edge on Friday by taking the doubles point, and Southern Miss had to chase from the start. Even with the match moving against them, the Golden Eagles kept competing deep into singles and found a bright spot in the middle of the lineup, as Miranda Xu delivered a key win to keep pressure on and reward the fight the team showed throughout the afternoon.
The response on Sunday was exactly what you want to see at home. Southern Miss came out sharper in doubles, earned the opening point, and carried that momentum straight into singles. The Golden Eagles took care of business up and down the lineup, stayed steady in first sets, and made the pressure count to secure a 4-0 sweep over Florida A&M.
Southern Miss kept that same energy rolling into Tuesday and finished the homestand with another shutout, sweeping Alcorn State 4-0. The Golden Eagles set the tone early again, handled doubles, and then backed it up by stacking singles wins to close the match cleanly. Two straight 4-0 wins to end the homestand gave Southern Miss a strong finish and a clear statement of how tough the home courts can be.
