Beach Volleyball Wraps Up Third Coast Challenge

HOUSTON – Southern Miss (2-2) concluded its two-day stay in Houston at the Third Coast Challenge by splitting its matches with a loss to No. 3 Cal Poly and win over Houston Christian.
Cal Poly 5, Southern Miss 0
Southern Miss' day began against top five competition with the No. 3 Cal Poly Mustangs (4-0), a squad that features three All-American selections from last season. Southern Miss' second pairing of Zuzanna Michalska (Warsaw, Poland) and Abby Lewis (The Woodlands, Texas) held their own against the Mustangs 2s but fell 21-19 and 21-15 in back-to-back sets.
The Mustangs clinched the dual with quick wins at the fourth and third pairings before finishing out the game with victories at flights one and five. Cal Poly wrapped up the weekend 4-0 as the only undefeated team at the Third Coast Challenge.
Southern Miss 3, Houston Christian 2
The Golden Eagles' final match of the trip came against the host Houston Christian Huskies (1-3). Iustina Corcoz (Budapest, Hungary) and Margarita Grigoreva (Moscow, Russia) got Southern Miss on the board with a two-set victory at the fourth pair. The Huskies tied the dual with a win at the 2s before Jaden White (West Palm Beach, Fla.) and Kitija Martini Adamsone (Marupe, Latvia) got the second point of the dual at the third flight.
Southern Miss' top-flight pairing of Laurel Dennis (Gulfport, Miss.) and Sadie McAda (Pleansanton, Texas) clinched the dual for the Golden Eagles. HCU took the final point of the match but Dennis and McAda's win had sealed a 2-2 record for Southern Miss over the weekend and a team-leading 3-1 pair record.
