Baseball Travels to Texas to Play in Round Rock Classic

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss Baseball continues its four-game road swing this weekend with a trip to the Round Rock Classic with games against national powers Purdue, Oregon State and Baylor.
The event takes place at Dell Diamond, the Triple A home of the Texas Rangers, in Round Rock, Texas, and sees the Golden Eagles play the Boilermakers Friday at 2 p.m. to start the event. Southern Miss then plays Oregon State at 5 p.m., Saturday, before finishing the three-day tournament with a 3 p.m. Sunday contest against Baylor.
All three games are available via webstream by D1Baseball.com for a fee, while the games can also be heard on an affiliate of the Southern Miss Sports Network as well as through SouthernMiss.com.
Southern Miss (3-1) brings a three-game winning streak into the weekend after defeating Southeastern Louisiana Tuesday night 3-1 in Hammond.
Joey Urban and Matthew Russo collected run-scoring singles in the pivotal ninth that provided the difference in the contest. Urban reached base in all five plate appearances, drawing three walks and adding two singles, increasing his team-leading batting average to .538. Russo also drove in his team-best fifth run in that frame.
Caleb Stelly is next in average on the Golden Eagle roster with a .333 mark, followed by Drey Barrett at .294.
The Golden Eagles will send their same trio of starting pitchers out on the mound for the second consecutive weekend. Senior right-hander Colby Allen (0-1, 5.40 ERA) gets the call on Friday, while sophomore left-hander Grayden Harris (0-0, 12.00 ERA) will pitch against the Beavers on Saturday with redshirt sophomore right-hander McCarty English (0-0, 3.00 ERA) taking the bump on Sunday versus Baylor.
The Boilermakers enter the weekend with a 2-2 record after dropping a 5-2 decision at Rice Wednesday night. Oregon State holds a 3-1 record with wins over Arizona, Stanford, and Michigan during the early going this year. Baylor comes into the weekend as the only undefeated team at 4-0, with three wins over New Mexico State and a midweek triumph over Texas State.
