Women’s Tennis Opens Spring with 2-1 Homestand Stretch

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss women's tennis (2-1) opened the spring season with three home matches in four days, finishing the stretch with two wins after a 4-3 win over Jackson State (1-7), a 4-2 setback to Sam Houston (1-7), and a 4-1 victory over Lamar (4-2).
Southern Miss opened the season with a hard-earned 4-3 win over Jackson State. The Golden Eagles secured the doubles point behind wins from Hannah Chambers and Miranda Xu, along with Sakura Sudo and Kamornwan Kornsila. In singles, Angelina Blinova, Kornsila, and Xu all picked up wins to lock up the first team victory of the spring.
On Saturday, Southern Miss grabbed the doubles point again against Sam Houston with victories from Blinova and Sudo, plus Mia Hisashi-Morrissey and Pimmada Lim. The Bearkats answered in singles to pull out a 4-2 decision, but Gagana Mohan Kumar earned a strong straight-sets win to put a point on the board for the Golden Eagles as several courts battled deep.
Southern Miss closed the homestand Monday with a strong 4-1 win over Lamar. Chambers and Xu teamed up for a doubles win, while Blinova and Sudo added the second doubles victory to secure the point. The Golden Eagles carried that momentum into singles, getting wins from Blinova, Sudo, and Mohan Kumar to finish the long weekend on a high note.
