Golden Eagles Hang Tight in Second With One Round to Play at The Lady Clerico

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. -- The Southern Miss women's golf team sits in second place at The Lady Clerico after three Golden Eagles went sub-par on day one at Hillcrest Country Club.
Louise Cuyvers is tied for sixth after she shot a four-over 76 in the morning round in Bartlesville, Okla. The sophomore from Belgium had five birdies to go along with just one bogey on her card. In the afternoon round, Cuyvers carded a four-under 68 to set a new career low. She's also tied for the best score on par-3s after averaging 2.8 strokes today.
Taylor Trible and Savannah Van Gaalen are tied for 11th on the leaderboard after Monday's action. Trible drained five birdies in the first round, with three of them coming on the front nine, to finish with a one-under 71. Trible fired a two-over 74 in her second round. Van Gaalen was the low Golden Eagle in the first round after shooting a two-under 70. The freshman carded a three-over 75 in her second round and is tied for 11th heading into Tuesday's final round.
Van Gaalen's first round featured three straight birdies starting on the ninth hole. Liv Romer is tied for 17th after firing a three-over 75 in the first round and one-over 73 in the afternoon round. Morgan Guepet shot a four-over 76 and a two-over 74 to sit in a tie for 28th.
Southern Miss trails Abilene Christian by one stroke heading into the final round. Houston Christian, Northern Colorado, and Oral Roberts round out the top five. The Golden Eagles hold a six-stroke lead over third-place Houston Christian.
