
Bates Leads Charge at Battle of New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Southern Miss cross country team opened its 2025 campaign Friday evening at the Battle of New Orleans, placing seven runners inside the top 30 in the women's 4k.
Emme Bates paced the Golden Eagles with a seventh-place finish in 13:54.16, while Maria Kaylor followed close behind in 10th at 14:00.91. Addison Rainey (18th, 14:22.30), Alexane Hunte (22nd, 14:25.40) and Indy Grajalez (23rd, 14:25.45) rounded out the team's top five.
Katie Galgoczy secured a 27th-place finish in 14:32.14, while Hayley Datema (44th, 15:13.13), Cadence Lapp (48th, 15:22.25) and Olivia Smith (49th, 15:27.38) also crossed inside the top 50. Presley Miller (60th, 15:53.96) and Sylvia White (68th, 16:21.48) completed the Southern Miss lineup.
The Golden Eagles continue their fall slate Sept. 12 at the Southern Showcase in Huntsville, Ala.
