Track and Field Brings Home Five Wins from Sun Belt Outdoor Championships

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Southern Miss track and field brought home five gold medals at the Sun Belt Outdoor Championships over the weekend to close out the season in Harrisonburg. Overall, the team earned 16 podium finishes.
The women's team finished third overall with 97 points, while the Golden Eagle men placed sixth with 72 points.
In the women's events, Alana Simon won the high jump with a clearance of 1.77 meters, while teammate Jelese Alexander tied for third at the same height. Jaellene Burgess claimed the 800-meter title in 2:07.41, and Kennedi Sanders won the 400 meters in 53.22. Addison McLaurin earned a third-place finish in the 400 meters, clocking 53.80. Joidon Boddie placed second in the triple jump with a leap of 12.74 meters.
On the track, Cadence Lapp secured a silver medal in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:50.99. The 4x100-meter relay team took second in 44.56, and the 4x400-meter relay squad, consisting of Taliyah Lindsay, Jaellene Burgess, McLaurin, and Sanders, closed the meet with a victory in 3:36.08.
On the men's side, Piers Cameron captured the shot put title with a throw of 19.44 meters. Conner Mozee earned second place in the discus with a mark of 52.95 meters, and De'Aundre Ward placed third in the long jump at 7.77 meters.
Zayne Palomino and Tyler Nichols finished third and fourth, respectively, in the high jump, both clearing 2.10 meters. Javel Fullerton ran 50.36 to take second in the 400-meter hurdles, and Kelsey Singleton placed second in the 400 meters with a time of 46.13. The men's 4x100-meter relay team also recorded a runner-up finish.
