HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss baseball team continues its seven-game homestand this weekend by playing host to Arkansas State in a three-game Sun Belt Conference series. The set opens Friday at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field with a game time set for 6 p.m.
Â
All three games can be seen on ESPN+ as well as heard on an affiliate of the Southern Miss Sports Network.
Â
The Golden Eagles (32-13 overall, 15-6 Sun Belt) bring a six-game winning streak into the weekend as well as a second place ranking in the league standings, trailing Coastal Carolina by two games, while sitting in front of Troy by one contest. The program has nine games left with three against both the Red Wolves and Louisiana at home, before ending the regular season at Troy.
Â
The team recently reached the 30-win plateau for the 23rd-straight season - the current best streak in Division I baseball - and looks to register their ninth consecutive 40-win season as well as ninth NCAA Tournament appearance this season. Their current string of 40-win seasons also leads Division I baseball.
Â
Over the last month, Nick Monistere has led the Golden Eagle offense by hitting .385 (26-for-67) with 10 home runs and 35 RBI over the 17 games in April. He starts the new month with a career-best 12-game hitting streak. For the year, Monistere is hitting .339 with team bests of 16 home runs and 56 RBI. His home run total ranks No. 16 nationally.
Â
Carson Paetow ranks second on team in home runs with 14, while Matthew Russo is third at 12. For the season, Southern Miss has hit 75 total homers, including at least one in the last 13 games, and are on pace to break the school record of 95 set in 1997. The Golden Eagles hold a No. 18 national ranking in home runs and are No. 19 in home runs per game (1.67).
Â
In a series that dates back to 2005, Southern Miss holds a 12-0 advantage over the Red Wolves. Arkansas State enters play with a 23-21 overall mark and 11-10 in league action.
