Southern Miss (22-11) lost for the second-straight game and fell to 1-3 on its current eight-game road swing.
Down 4-2 in the sixth, the Crimson Tide (28-6) got a walk and hit batter to open the frame by Golden Eagle reliever Josh Och. It was Och who came into the game in the fifth and got the final two outs on foul outs to catcher Tucker Stockman.
Southern Miss then went to the bullpen for Kros Sivley, who made his first appearance in relief this season. After allowing a walk to load the bases, Sivley got a strikeout before hitting Bryce Fowler which cut the gap to 4-3.
Sivley then registered another strikeout before No. 9 hitter Brady Neal hit a ball down the left field line that was just out of Gillespie's reach and the double cleared the bases. Richie Bonomolo, Jr. then homered to left center, his fourth, to complete the inning's scoring.
Sivley (2-1) was tagged with the loss as he gave up four runs on a walk, a hit batter and two strikeouts over two-thirds of an inning. Matt Adams got the start of the Golden Eagles and allowed two runs on four hits with three walks and six strikeouts over 4 1/3 innings.
Southern Miss cut into the gap in the eighth with two runs. Pinch hitter Ben Higdon opened the frame with a single. After a strikeout, Drey Barrett doubled off the left field wall to put a pair of runners in scoring position. Ozzie Pratt then singled in one run before Tucker Stockman added an RBI single of his own.
The home team then built back their lead in the bottom of the frame. After Peyton Steele homered down the left field line for his first of the year, Kade Snell added a run-scoring single for the game's final run.
The Golden Eagles initially jumped out in front with a pair of runs in the second inning. Davis Gillespie opened the frame by being hit by a pitch. Carson Paetow then singled through the right side, before Drey Barrett grounded into a double play.
Just when it looked like the Southern Miss rally was going to fade away, Pratt homered over the center field wall to also score Barrett to account for both runs. It was Pratt's fifth homer of the year.
Southern Miss added to its lead with two more runs in the third. After a lineout, Jake Cook singled to left center before Nick Monistere walked. After a popout to second, Gillespie lined one up the middle that second baseman kicked into left field allowing Cook to score. Monistere then scored on a flyball single to short by Paetow.
Alabama cut the gap to 4-2 in the fourth with a two-run homer by Garrett Staton, his third.
Crimson Tide Matthew Heiberger (3-1) fanned three over 1 1/3 innings to earn the victory.
The Golden Eagles return to action this weekend at Texas State in a three-game Sun Belt series. The first game is set for Friday at 6 p.m.
