3/8/2025 2:07:00 PM | Women's Tennis
HATTIESBURG, Miss.-Southern Miss women's tennis (3-4, 0-1 Sun Belt) suffered its first home loss this season, dropping a 5-1 decision to Georgia State (2-7, 1-0 Sun Belt) Saturday morning at the Southern Miss Tennis Complex.
The Golden Eagles could not overcome a strong performance from the Panthers, who secured the doubles point and won four singles matches to hand Southern Miss its first home defeat after a 3-0 start in Hattiesburg, which marked the program's best home start since the 2021-22 season.
Southern Miss' lone point came from Miranda Xu at No. 3 singles, where she earned a commanding 6-3, 6-3 victory over Sara Radojevic. The win marked Xu's fifth singles victory of the season.
However, the Panthers took early control in doubles play, winning at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions to claim the first point.
While Xu's win narrowed the gap after the Panthers' Pragnya Kumar and Francesca Miglio started the singles competition with two wins at the No. 6 and No. 2 positions, Georgia State tallied two more wins at the No. 1 and No. 5 positions to seal their second victory of the season.
