HATTIESBURG, Miss.-Southern Miss women's tennis returns home to open Sun Belt Conference play, hosting Georgia State on Saturday and Troy on Sunday.Â
The Golden Eagles look to bounce back after a two-match road stretch against Southeastern and Florida A&M. Despite those setbacks, Southern Miss has excelled in doubles play, securing the opening point in five of six matches this season. The duo of Miranda Xu and Sakura Sudo remains undefeated in doubles competition.
The Golden Eagles look to build on momentum in conference play from their first postseason win in eight years in 2024, coming from a victory over Arkansas State in the opening round of the SBC Championships. Southern Miss has started the season 3-0 at home, the program's best start in Hattiesburg since the 2021-2022 season. In their last home match on February 16, the Golden Eagles edged past Nicholls in a thrilling 4-3 victory.
The Golden Eagles will face a Georgia State team coming off of their first win of the season versus Chattanooga last Sunday in a 4-3 decision, clinched by Pragnya Kumar's three-set victory in singles (3-6, 7-5, 7-5). On Sunday, Southern Miss will clash against Troy, which holds a 5-4 record this season and is riding a two-game win streak with victories over Samford and Alabama A&M on the road.
First serve against Georgia State is set for 10 a.m. on Saturday, with Sunday's match against Troy also starting at 10 a.m.
