
Beach Volleyball Finishes Off Vanguard to End West Coast Road Trip

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Southern Miss beach volleyball (5-11, 1-2 Sun Belt) closes its two-day, four-match trip to California with a hard-fought win over Vanguard. The match was the Golden Eagles' seventh in a four-day stretch that saw Southern Miss finish 3-4 against some of the nation's best competition.
No. 8 Long Beach State 5, Southern Miss 0
The Golden Eagles opened their day against eighth-ranked Long Beach State on the campus of Long Beach City College. The Beach took the first two points of the day at the fives and fours en route to a clean sweep of Southern Miss.
Southern Miss, however, was not out of the fight. Third pair Dylan Russell (Oklahoma City, Okla.) and Y'Nhu Do (Cary, N.C.) fell by 21-15 margins in two sets while Laurel Dennis (Gulfport, Miss.) and Sadie McAda (Pleasanton, Texas) once again fought to a close final at the No. 2 pair.
Top flight Madison Cassidy (Baton Rouge, La.) and Zuzanna Michalsaka (Warsaw, Poland) pushed the Beach's No. 1s to a 23-21 final before falling by a 21-15 final in the second set.

Southern Miss finished its weekend in California with a standout performance over former NAIA powerhouse Vanguard. The Lions have won the last two NAIA National Titles and are in their first year as an NCAA member.
The Golden Eagles were tied with the Lions after the first two points of the day were score. Southern Miss' came thanks to Jaden White (West Palm Beach, Fla.) and Carmen Sanchez Delgado (Málaga, Spain), who won in two sets at the fourth pair.
Dennis and McAda collect Southern Miss' second point of the day at the twos, allowing Cassidy and Michalska to take the top flight and the overall match with a two-set win. Vanguard finished off its day with a win at the third pair in two sets as well.
