Beach Volleyball Opens Sugar Beach Bash in Strong Fashion

YOUNGSVILLE, La. – Southern Miss (7-12, 2-2 Sun Belt) collected back-to-back wins over ULM (6-9, 1-2 Sun Belt) and New Orleans (2-13, 1-2 Southland) to start their day at Southeastern's Sugar Beach Bash. The Golden Eagles only loss on the day came against (RV) Tulane (13-4, 0-1 C-USA) as the Green Wave squeaked by with a 15-13 third set victory at the fifth pairing.
Southern Miss 3, ULM 2
The Golden Eagles picked up their first win of the day in Sun Belt action against ULM. Southern Miss dropped the first point of the day before Laurel Dennis (Gulfport, Miss.) and Sadie McAda (Pleasanton, Texas) evened the match at 1-1.
Jessica Fairly (Fort Walton Beach, Fla.) and Giovanna Gurgel Bahia (Recife, Brazil) gave Southern Miss a 2-1 advantage with a 2-1 win at the fifth flight. Top flight pairing Madison Cassidy (Baton Rouge, La.) and Zuzanna Michalska (Warsaw, Poland) swept ULM's 1s to take Southern Miss' third point of the day and take the match.

New Orleans entered the week riding a three-game streak over Southern Miss but leaves Youngsville with that same streak snapped. The Golden Eagles won in straight sets at the first, second and fifth flights to snap their skid against the Privateers and remain undefeated at the Sugar Beach Bash.
Dennis/McAda again picked up the win at the second pairing, improving to 11-7 on the year at the 2s. Cassidy and Michalska collected their second win of the day while Fairly and Bahia continued the trend of back-to-back wins with a two-set decision at the fifth pair.
Lillie Johnson (Canyon Lake, La.) made her Golden Eagle debut at the third pairing, falling 21-19 and 21-14 to the UNO 3s.

Southern Miss wrapped up its day in Youngsville against rival Tulane, who is receiving votes in the most recent AVCA poll. The 2s struck first as Dennis/McAda took the first point of the match in two sets. The win moved the duo to 12-7 on the year.
Tulane responded taking points at the third and fourth pair as duals at the first and fifth positions moved to the third set. Both were decided by just two points with Cassidy/Michalska improving their record at the tournament at 3-0. Southern Miss' top flight is now 9-10 on the campaign.
However, the Green Wave did just enough at the fifth pair to take the match, winning 15-13 in the decisive set.
