
Beach Volleyball Heads to South Louisiana for Sugar Beach Bash

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss (5-11, 1-2 Sun Belt) is set for two days of beach volleyball at the Sugar Beach Bash in Youngsville, La. All matches for the tournament have been adjusted due to expected storms in the area on Saturday.
The Golden Eagles will take on ULM, New Orleans and Tulane on Friday and wrap up play against Spring Hill on Saturday. Central Arkansas, Southeastern and UT Martin will also be at the event. All matches on Saturday will not have an exact start time until Saturday morning.

Weekend action begins with a match against Sun Belt foe ULM. The Warhawks enter with a 5-7 overall record and will be playing their first Sun Belt match of the season. ULM finished winless last week at their Bayou Bash in Monroe, La., falling twice to No. 11 LSU and twice to Stephen F. Austin. Southern Miss is 7-2 all-time against ULM with all nine matches coming under Coach Shawn Taylor.
The Warhawks are led by first-year head coach Baylee Young, who arrives in Monroe after two successful seasons at NAIA Webber International (Babson Park, Fla.). Under Young's guidance, the Warriors claimed back-to-back AVCA Small College Titles for the NAIA Division and posted a 40-16 overall record.
ULM was picked to finish last in the Sun Belt Preseason Polls. Last season, the Warhawks finished 16-19 overall with a 1-5 mark in Sun Belt play. ULM knocked Southern Miss out of the Sun Belt Tournament before falling out of the championship two matches later.

Southern Miss looks to snap a three-game skid against the Privateers in a series that New Orleans now leads 7-4. The two last met on this exact sand at last season's Sugar Beach Bash where New Orleans won 4-1.
The 2025 Privateers enter the week with a 2-10 overall record and stand at 1-2 in Southland Conference play. New Orleans was swept in all four matches at the March to May last weekend and has not won in five matches.
Last year, UNO finished 12-22 and fell in the Southland Tournament semifinals to conclude their season. Returning from last year's squad are Ivana De Carvalho Peixe and Nikelle Lander, who were each named as players to watch by the Southland Conference. The Privateers were picked to finish eighth in the league's preseason poll as well.
New Orleans is led by first-year head coach Ryan Havice, who holds a 33-39 record in three overall seasons. Havice comes to the Crescent City after two seasons leading Hendrix (Conway, Ark.) where the Warriors captured the 2023 AVCA Small College Title and finished 3-2 at last season's AVCA Small College Championships.

The Golden Eagles close their first day of competition against Tulane. The Green Wave are receiving votes in the most recent AVCA Poll and currently lead the all-time series against Southern Miss 16-0.
Tulane enters the weekend with a 10-4 overall record after finishing 4-1 at the Heineken Queen's Cup in Honolulu, Hawai'i, last weekend. The Green Wave notched wins over No. 13 Washington, San Francisco, Chaminade and Saint Mary's with their only setback coming against the hosts, No. 11 Hawai'i.
Four members of the Olive & Blue earned Preseason Conference USA nods as Skylar Ensign, Sara Hall, Emily Heintzelman and Molly Trodd all secured a spot on the Preseason All-C-USA listings. Tulane is coming off a 26-14 2024 season that saw the Green Wave advance to the Conference USA Championship game before falling to No. 6 TCU.
Head coach Eyal Zimet is in his sixth season Uptown and holds a 107-54 record with the Green Wave. Zimet's overall record is 121-58 including his 14-4 showing at San Francisco in the 2016 season.

Southern Miss closes the weekend and the tournament against Spring Hill. It will be the second time the two play this season with Southern Miss taking the opening match against the Sandy Badgers in 4-1 fashion. The Golden Eagles now hold a 9-7 all-time advantage over SHC.
Since their last meeting against Southern Miss, Spring Hill has rattled off a 6-2 showing to move to 6-5 overall on the year. Last week, they defeated crosstown rival Mobile in their Senior day showcase.
Head coach Sarah Senft is in her fourth season leading the Sandy Badgers after wrapping up her playing career at Spring Hill. She holds a 63-44 overall record as well an AVCA National Runner-Up finish in 2022.
