Southern Miss Finishes First Day of California Tour

LOS ANGELES – Golden Eagle beach volleyball (4-10, 1-2 Sun Belt) fell in its first two matches in the Golden State, suffering setbacks to Sun Belt opponent Mercer (9-2, 1-0 Sun Belt) and at No. 2 Loyola Marymount (11-1, 0-0 West Coast). Southern Miss' California adventure continues tomorrow as the Golden Eagles play two matches at Long Beach State's Beach Invitational.

The Golden Eagles dropped their first match of the day in Los Angeles to Sun Belt foe Mercer (9-1, 1-0 Sun Belt). The Bears earned the first three points of the day with wins at the fours, twos and threes. Madison Cassidy (Baton Rouge, La.) and Zuzanna Michalska (Warsaw, Poland) extended their unbeaten streak to four consecutive games at the top flight.
Carmen Sanchez Delgado (Málaga, Spain) and Ryann Thomas (Georgetown, Ky.) pulled off a three-set win in the exhibition while Jessica Fairly (Fort Walton Beach, Fla.) and Giovanna Gurgel Bahia (Recife, Fla.) fell in the third set 17-15, narrowly missing out on Southern Miss' second point of the day.

The Lions' No. 1 pairing stormed back to win in the third set, snapping the duo's four-match winning streak.
