
Women's Golf Takes Sizable Lead at ULM Invitational With Historic Day

MONROE,La. -Â The Southern Miss women's golf team enjoyed a historic day at the ULM Invitational as the Golden Eagles played their way into an eight-stroke lead for first place. Southern Miss also etched its name into the team and individual record books.Â
The Golden Eagles shot the two lowest rounds under first-year head coach Colton Cowan after posting a 281 in the first round and 285 in the second round. The 36-hole total of 565 is the lowest in program history, while the 281 during the opening round is the second lowest in program history. The previous 36-hole low was 575, which was set in 2022 at the Lady Red Wolves Classic.Â
Taylor Trible put her name in the record books with a six-under 66 in the second round, which is the second lowest round in Southern Miss history. Former Golden Eagle Julie Baker holds the record with a seven-under 65 in 2017. Trible started the tournament with a two-under 70 and is in second place. Her day one total of 136 was also the best 36-hole stretch of golf in program history by four strokes. Devon Spriddle had the previous low 36-hole total of 140, which she set in 2014 at the Old Waverly Bulldog Invite.
Meanwhile, Momoka Ando stole the show in the opening round with her four-under 68 to lead all Southern Miss golfers that round. She is in fourth after shooting an even-par 72 in the second round. Elena Melich also delivered a huge first round with a three-under 69 and then posted a three-over 75 on her second go around Bayou Desiard Country Club. Melich is in ninth place heading into Tuesday's final round. Freshman Louise Cuyvers started her day with a two-over 74 and then responded with an one-under 71 to fall into 13th. Alma Betoret is 43rd, while Fernanda Gorostiaga - playing as an individual - is in 39th.Â
Trible's 66 is a new career low, while Melich tied her career low with the 68. Trible's previous career best was a 69 at The Judson in 2023. Southern Miss is 10-under par through Monday's two rounds, while ULM is in second place at three-under par.Â
