Â
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss baseball team returns home this weekend to face South Alabama in a three-game Sun Belt Conference series at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field. The opening game takes place Friday at 6 p.m.
Â
All three games can be seen via ESPN+, as well as heard on an affiliate of the Southern Miss Sports Network.
Â
The Golden Eagles (18-7 overall, 5-1 Sun Belt) look to start a new winning streak after having a four-gamer snapped Tuesday night in Biloxi following an 8-5 setback to Nicholls. Southern Miss, ranked as high at No. 13 in the country in the national polls, has still won nine of the last 11 games.
Â
Currently, Southern Miss sits atop the Sun Belt through two weekends of league play. They rank a game above Troy, Coastal Carolina, Georgia State and James Madison at the top of the league standings.
Â
South Alabama enters the weekend with an 11-13 record overall, after dropping a 13-5 contest to Auburn in Montgomery during the midweek, as well as holding a 1-5 league mark.
Â
In a series that dates back to 1967, the Jaguars lead Southern Miss 68-45, but the Golden Eagles hold a 5-1 record since joining the Sun Belt and have captured seven of the last 10 meetings in the series.
Â
Southern Miss continues to swing the bats well through the first half of the campaign. The team enjoys a .296 team batting average and have homered in each of the last 12 games. That streak of home runs ties for the highest streak since 2023, when they went from April 23-to-May 13 with a homer.
Â
The pitching staff has posted a team earned run average of 3.85 as they have fanned 223 and walked just 77 on the year.
Â
Following the South Alabama series, Southern Miss completes its homestand Tuesday against Tulane. Game time for that contest is 6 p.m.
