Women's Tennis Falls in Conference Battle at James Madison

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Southern Miss women's tennis (4-8, 0-5 Sun Belt) dropped a 4-0 decision to James Madison on Saturday morning at Hillside Courts.

Southern Miss started with momentum in doubles as the top pair of Hannah Chambers and Jordan Parker secured a 6-4 win over JMU's Daria Munteanu and Ines Oliveira. However, the Dukes responded by taking the next two doubles matches, clinching the opening point, and carrying the momentum forward with three straight-set victories in singles to seal the match.

Chambers battled at the top spot but fell 6-1, 6-3 to Munteanu. Malannia Vashkevich dropped a 6-2, 6-1 contest at No. 2 singles, while Gagana Mohan Kumar was defeated 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6.

Three matches went unfinished as play was halted once JMU clinched the victory. Miranda Xu was locked in a third set at No. 3 singles, while Sakura Sudo and Talia Wunnenberg were in tight second sets when play was stopped.
