Baseball Makes Lone Trip to Pearl to Face Nationally Ranked Ole Miss

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss baseball team makes its lone trip to Trustmark Park in Pearl this season as they face No. 18 Ole Miss in a 6 p.m. Tuesday contest.

The game, which will be shown via ESPN+ as well as heard on an affiliate of the Southern Miss Sports Network, marks the second meeting between the two schools this season. The Golden Eagles (14-6) fell to the Rebels (15-4) in Oxford last month, 15-8.

Southern Miss enters this game having captured its season-opening Sun Belt series with Old Dominion, outscoring the Monarchs 23-10 in the weekend set. The Rebels dropped two of three to Arkansas at home in their opening Southeastern Conference series.

The Golden Eagles continue to be led by its leadoff hitter Jake Cook, who is currently riding a seven-game hitting streak. He is hitting .621 (18-for-29) over this stretch with four doubles, a triple and three RBI with six runs scored. In his first game hitting leadoff last Tuesday versus UTRGV, Cook collected a career-best four hits. He currently leads the team with a .464 batting average, which also has him with four three-hit games during this hitting streak.

Carson Paetow took over the team lead for home runs over the weekend, after belting two in the middle game of the series versus ODU. It was his second two-homer contest this season, giving him six for the year.

Two Golden Eagles, catcher Tucker Stockman and second baseman Nick Monistere, each enjoy six game hitting streaks as well for Southern Miss.

Senior right-hander Matt Adams gets the call on the mound, and he comes off a victory over UTRGV last Tuesday in which he threw a season-high 6 2/3 innings and allowed one run on four hits with a season-best 10 strikeouts. It will be the 24th career start for Adams.

The Golden Eagles are the designated home team for this contest.

Southern Miss stays on the road for a weekend series at ULM. The set opens on Friday with a 6 p.m., contest in Monroe.
