Women's Tennis Drops Match at App State

BOONE, N.C.-Southern Miss women's tennis (4-7, 0-4 Sun Belt) dropped a 4-1 decision to App State (8-5, 2-2 Sun Belt) on Sunday morning at the Deer Valley Athletic Club.
Miranda Xu recorded the lone point for Southern Miss, edging past Taya Powell in the second set of singles play on court three for a straight-set victory of 6-2, 7-6 (7-5). Xu leads the Golden Eagles with seven wins in singles competition this season.
The Mountaineers jumped to an early lead by securing the doubles point with wins on courts two and three. App State's Taya Powell and Ruby Broadbent opened with a 6-1 victory over Talia Wunnenberg and Malannia Vashkevich at No. 2 doubles, followed by a 6-2 win from Savannah DadaMascoll and Alexi Cleveland over Xu and Sakura Sudo at the No. 3 spot.
In singles play, App State extended its lead with a 6-1, 6-2 win from Savannah Dada Mascoll over Hannah Chambers on court one. While Xu put Southern Miss on the board with her win at the No. 3 spot, Naledi Manyube sealed the match for the Mountaineers with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Malannia Vashkevich.
