
Women's Tennis Continues Conference Competition at Marshall and App State

HATTIESBURG, Miss.-Southern Miss women's tennis (4-5, 0-2 Sun Belt) continues conference play with a road trip to Marshall and App State this weekend.
The Golden Eagles snapped a four-game skid on Wednesday with a 4-0 win against Alcorn State, improving to 4-2 at home this season.Â
The pairs of Gagana Mohan Kumar and Talia Wunnenberg and Sakura Sudo and Miranda Xu delivered victories in doubles play to secure the first point of the match, and Sudo later sealed the victory with a win on court four in singles play.
Southern Miss looks to rebound from two losses against Georgia State and Troy to start conference play last weekend.Â

The Golden Eagles will face a No. 50 Marshall team that has started the season 11-3 (0-2 Sun Belt). The Herd dropped matches at James Madison and No. 36 Old Dominion last weekend, but return home, where they are undefeated this season.
Marshall is led by seniors Sophia Hurrion and Aisling McGrane, both 2024 All-Sun Belt Second-Team Doubles selections, who boast a 10-4 and 9-4 record, respectively, so far this year.Â
Southern Miss then concludes its weekend at App State (7-4, 1-1 Sun Belt), who split matches last weekend at ODU and JMU. The Mountaineers secured a 4-2 victory against JMU Sunday, earning the doubles point and earning wins in singles from Alexi Cleveland, Savannah Dada-Mascoll and a clinching-win from Naledi Manyube.
The Golden Eagles have won once against App State in a neutral match in 2014 and are seeking their first win against Marshall. The Herd won the last meeting in 2024 4-0 in Hattiesburg.
