Southern Miss Finishes FIU Invite

MIAMI – Golden Eagle beach volleyball finishes its two-day trip to FIU's FIU Invite with losses to Utah and No. 12 Florida Atlantic. Southern Miss (2-7) fought to tight decisions but was unable to finish off the Utes and Sandy Owls.

Utah 5, Southern Miss 0
Southern Miss pushed Utah to three sets at the first and third pair but was unable to pull off wins. Laurel Dennis (Gulfport, Miss.) and Sadie McAda (Pleasanton, Texas) fell in two sets but gave Utah's twos all they could, falling 21-19 in each.

Madison Cassidy (Baton Rouge, La.) and Zuzanna Michalska (Warsaw, Poland) fell in three sets as the top flight, winning 21-18 in the first and falling 21-17 and 15-9 in the final two sets. Y-Nhu Do (Cary, N.C.) and Dylan Russell (Oklahoma City, Okla.) also fell in three sets as the third pair, dropping the deciding set 15-13.

Southern Miss ended the weekend with a 4-1 setback to nationally-ranked Florida Atlantic. The Sandy Owls, currently 12th in the AVCA Poll, won the first point of the match before Dennis/McAda won in two sets at the second position.

At the threes, Nhu and Russell forced a third set and nearly captured Southern Miss' second points of the day in the third set. However, the third pair duo fell 15-13 in the deciding set.
