
Women's Tennis Set to Face UNO on Saturday

HATTIESBURG, Miss.- Southern Miss (2-0,0-0 Sun Belt) women's tennis team travels to New Orleans, La. on Saturday to take on the University of New Orleans (1-0, 0-0 Southland). The match is slated for 11 a.m. at the Privateer Tennis Center.Â
The Golden Eagles started the season strong with two wins against Chattanooga on Friday and a 4-2 win against Northwestern State on Sunday. The team's 2-0 mark on the weekend is the first time that the program ended its opening weekend undefeated since the 2021-22 season.
Southern Miss set the tone early in Friday's opener with a 5-1 victory against Chattanooga. The first doubles pair of Hannah Chambers and Angelina Blinova had an exciting 7-6 victory over UTC's Rozalie Dohnalova and Alice Hall. The pair of Sakura Sudo and Miranda Xu clinched another doubles victory for Southern Miss. Blinova, Xu, Parker and Wunnenberg each secured victories in their solo play.Â
Southern Miss carried this momentum into their play against Northwestern State with a 4-2 victory. Sudo earned her third win of the season defeating her opponent Valerie Ortega to give the Golden Eagles a perfect start to the season.Â
The Privateers are coming off a 7-0 victory against Mississippi Gulf Coast CC. In this sweep, the Privateers only dropped five total games in their doubles matches and no Privateer lost more than four games in a set. Most notably, Nouray Khaled did not lose a set in her singles game (6-0, 6-0).
Both teams will look to defend their perfect records.
