The Golden Eagles (7-2) dropped their second game in a row as eight pitchers allowed 11 walks and five hit by pitches.
The Rebels (7-1) jumped out with three runs in the opening frame, taking advantage of four Golden Eagle walks and a fielding error.
Southern Miss starter McCarty English, who was tagged with the loss and fell to 0-1, walked the first two batters he faced before getting a strikeout. A flyball to short right field was then dropped by Nick Monistere to load the bases. After getting a foul out to the catcher, Mark Utermark singled home the first two runs with a drive to left. English walked another batter, and he was done for the day, making way for Matthew Adams. Adams walked his first batter to allow the Rebels to score their third run before getting a groundout to first to end the frame.
The Golden Eagles cut into that lead with a solo home run to straightaway center by Monistere for his second home run of the campaign to open the second.
The visitors added another run in the third. Jake Cook began the inning by reaching on a Rebel fielding error by first baseman Will Furniss. After a groundout, Ozzie Pratt and Davis Gillespie both singled with the latter one driving in Cook.
Ole Miss, though, enjoyed another three-run inning in the bottom of the frame. Utermark started the frame with a hit by pitch, before going to third on a failed pick off attempt at first. Furniss then singled him home to left and scored one batter later on a two-run homer by Austin Fawley, who notched his first of the year.
Southern Miss cut the gap to 6-5 with three runs in the fourth. Matthew Russo led off with a solo home to right. Tucker Stockman followed with a one-out single before Cook reached on a fielding error. After a wild pitch to put runners on second and third, Urban singled in a run and Pratt registered a sacrifice fly.
The Rebels extended their advantage in the bottom half of the fourth with a bases-loaded walk, followed by a hit by pitch to account for two more runs to make the score 8-5.
That three-run advantage did not hold long as Carson Paetow opened the top of the fifth with a double down the right field line and went to third when Mitchell Sanford misplayed the ball. Monistere then plated Paetow on a sacrifice fly.
A two-run double in the bottom of the frame by Sanford increased Ole Miss' advantage to 10-6.
Hunter Stockman opened the sixth with a Southern Miss solo homer, his first of the year, giving them their third inning lead off blast. The Golden Eagles loaded the bases but could not score any more runs in the frame.
The Rebels then got a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth by Owen Paino, his first, to make the score 11-7.
After Davis Gillespie homered in the top of the eighth for this third round-tripper of the year, the Rebels scored a run in the bottom half of the frame on a wild, two more on a home run by Ryan Moerman with another homer by Sanford to allow Ole Miss to pull away.
Reliever Brayden Jones (1-0) threw 1 2/3 scoreless inning with a hit and strikeout to garner the victory.
The Golden Eagles stay on the road for a three-game weekend series at TCU. The set opens Friday at 6 p.m., from Fort Worth.
