HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss baseball team opens a five-game road swing with Ole Miss Tuesday in a 4 p.m. contest at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field.
The game can be seen on SEC Network-Plus, as well as heard on an affiliate of the Southern Miss Sports Network.
After playing the first eight games at home and jumping out to a 7-1 record, the Golden Eagles start a tough stretch away from home, which also features a three-game weekend series at TCU before rounding things out next Tuesday at Mississippi State.
The Rebels are 6-1 this season, after sweeping Eastern Kentucky last weekend in Oxford. The Golden Eagles snapped a five-game losing streak to the Rebels in Hattiesburg last May with a 7-5 win at Pete Taylor Park. The last Southern Miss victory over Ole Miss in Oxford was a 10-7 win in the 2021 NCAA Regional that forced a second game in the regional final.
The Golden Eagles enter Tuesday's game ranked in the Top 20 nationally (through Sunday's games) in three offensive categories, including 5th in doubles with 24. Southern Miss also ranks tied for 13th for doubles per game (3.00), ninth in sacrifice flies (6) and 21st in hit by pitches (17).
On the pitching side, the Golden Eagles are fourth in shutouts (2), 16th in WHIP (1.03), 19th in hits allowed by nine innings (6.16) and 20th in ERA (2.47).
In a season that has already seen Southern Miss register two shutouts over the first games, Southern Miss' starting pitching has been solid, posting a 6-1 mark with a 1.38 earned run average over 39 innings with 12 walks and 45 strikeouts.
Ozzie Pratt has lead the offense for the Golden Eagles having collected a hit in seven of eight games this spring. He holds a .339 batting average with three doubles, a home run and eight RBI. Davis Gillespie leads the way in RBI for the team in 2025 with 11, while Carson Paetow ranks second with 10.
Following the Ole Miss contest, Southern Miss travels to Fort Worth this weekend to face TCU. The first game of the series is set for Friday at 6 p.m.
