HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss baseball welcomes former Conference USA rival Louisiana Tech to Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field for a three-game weekend series starting Friday at 4 p.m.
Â
The initial game of the set was moved up due to expected cold temperatures in the Pine Belt area. Game two will take place, Saturday, at 2 p.m., with the Sunday finale set for 1 p.m. All three games can be seen via ESPN+, as well as heard on an affiliate of the Southern Miss Sports Network.
Â
Southern Miss enters the weekend with a 5-0 mark, having defeated nationally ranked Mississippi State at home Tuesday, 3-0. The five-game start is the best for the Golden Eagles since 2016, as that club jumped out to a 7-0 record to start that campaign.
Â
The Bulldogs (4-0) come to Hattiesburg equally as hot, having swept a four-game series from Maine last weekend in Ruston.
Â
This will be the second year the programs have played a three-game series, since the Golden Eagles left CUSA following the 2022 season. The two schools split a pair of midweek contests in 2023, before Southern Miss won two of three at LA Tech last spring. Since 2021, the two programs have played 19 times, including 11 times in 2021.
Â
The Golden Eagles offense has enjoyed a great start as they rank in the Top 10 nationally (through Wednesday's games) in five offensive categories, including being 1st in doubles with 19. They are currently tied with Incarnate Word, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest for the most doubles in the country. Southern Miss also ranks tied for fourth for doubles per game (3.80), eighth in hits (56), eighth in sacrifice flies (4) and 10th in hit by pitches (13).
Â
Southern Miss starting pitching has also been solid though the opening week of the season, posting a 4-0 mark with a 0.69 earned run average over 26 innings of work with six walks and 28 strikeouts.
Â
Following the Louisiana Tech series, the Golden Eagles travel to Oxford to face Ole Miss in a Tuesday contest. The game time is 4 p.m.
