Track and Field Heads to Birmingham for South Alabama Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southern Miss Golden Eagles head to Birmingham to compete in the South Alabama Invitational at the Birmingham Crossplex on Sunday.
Teams competing at the meet include Anderson, Auburn, Alcorn State, Alabama A&M, Alabama State, Christian Brothers, Emmanuel (Ga.), Lee (Tenn.), New Orleans, Morehouse, Miles College, Oglethorpe, Reinhardt, Samford, South Alabama, Troy and Tuskegee.
Last time out, Southern Miss earned eight top-three finishes at the Vanderbilt Invitational, with Kelsey Singleton winning the men's 200- and 400-meter dashes. The Golden Eagles recorded 23 top-eight finishes throughout the meet.
The Golden Eagle women secured two top-three finishes over the weekend. Maria Kaylor broke a school record in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9 minutes, 27.45 seconds. Za'Isha Fraser placed second in the triple jump with a mark of 12.54 meters. The women's 400-meter relay team took third, as Trinity Flagler, Jaellene Burgess, Addison McLaurin and Taliyah Lindsay finished in 3:41.49.
On the men's side, Zayne Palomino (high jump open, 2.16 meters), Tyler Nichols (long jump seeded, 7.73 meters) and Tyler Hughes (long jump unseeded, 7.32 meters) each placed second.
Track events begin at 9:30 a.m. with the women's 5,000 meters and conclude with the men's 4x400-meter relay at 4:15 p.m. Field events open with the men's and women's shot put at 11 a.m. and end with the women's triple jump at 3:15 p.m. Live results will be available via the live stats link on the schedule page.
Spectator tickets are $8, with free admission for children under 5.
