Gorostiaga Leads the Field at The Judson

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Senior Fernanda Gorostiaga leads the field at The Judson, while Southern Miss women's golf is in second place after two rounds of action at Hattiesburg Country Club.
Gorostiaga opened the day with a three-under 69 and then fired another three-under 69 to cap her opening day. The Spaniard had 11 birdies over the two rounds and carded only five bogeys. Southern Miss had nine rounds of par-or-better golf as a team, while Taylor Trible, Liv Romer, and Gorostiaga did so in both rounds.
Trible opened her day with an even-par 72 and finished the afternoon round with a four-under 68 to sit tied for fourth. Junior Liv Romer delivered back-to-back one-under 71s, which was a season low and tied for seventh. Savanah Van Gaalen added a one-under 71 in her second round as she had a pair of birdies along the way and is tied for 11th. Louise Cuyvers also added a one-under 71 in the afternoon round to sit tied for 14th.
Morgan Guepet opened the morning round with a career-low two-under 70 but shot a five-over 77 in the afternoon round to drop into a tie for 19th. Freshman Ava Kight added a two-over 74 and a five-over 77 in her first collegiate action.
The Golden Eagles trail Tulane by three strokes after Southern Miss delivered the low second round at seven-under par. Central Arkansas, Samford, and West Georgia round out the top five. Gorostiaga has a one-stroke lead on Sophia Macias of Tulane, who went four-under to open the event.
