Women's Golf in Middle of the Pack at The Ally

WEST POINT -- The Southern Miss women's golf team is tied for seventh after day one of play at The Ally in West Point, Miss. The Golden Eagles finished nine-over at Old Wavery Golf Course, which slotted them with Mercer on the scoreboard.Â
Louise Cuyvers and Savannah Van Gaalen paced Southern Miss as both fired a one-over 73. Van Gaalen's highlight of the round came on the ninth hole, where she eagled the par-five. She then birdied the next hole en route to finishing in a tie for 23rd through 18 holes — Cuyvers is also tied for 23rd.Â
Liv Romer finished Monday's round with a two-over 74, which included three birdies to put her in 31st. Morgan Guepet and Taylor Trible both shot a five-over 77 and are tied for 57th. The Golden Eagles shot a 297 as a team, which slotted them ahead of Iowa and Mississippi State in the standings.Â
Arkansas and Florida lead the field as both went eight-under par. ULM, Ole Miss and Vanderbilt round out the top five. Guepet will get the Golden Eagles started on Tuesday morning with an 8:40 a.m. tee time off the first hole. The rest of the Southern Miss team will follow every nine minutes until Cuyvers goes off the first hole at 9:06 a.m.
