OXFORD, Miss.-Southern Miss Soccer (1-4, 0-0 Sun Belt) fell to Ole Miss (5-3, 0-0 SEC) 1-0 in a rain-soaked duel in Oxford Thursday morning, fighting throughout the match to respond to an early deficit.
The Golden Eagles outshot the Rebels throughout the game nine to seven, but Ole Miss capitalized on its first shot and only one on target in the match. Aubrey Mister scored in the 18th minute, sending the ball into the bottom corner of the net for the goal, which was assisted by teammate Katie Ramsden.
Southern Miss controlled possession from the start of the whistle in the first period and launched an attack with five shots in the first 15 minutes, including two on target from Alice Williamson and Chloe Taylor. However, Ole Miss' keeper Taylor Prigge stopped both balls, stalling the Golden Eagles and launching the counterattack.
Ole Miss limited Southern Miss to two shots in the second half, as Prigge saved Williamson's second shot on target to prevent an equalizer and lead to securing the Rebels' victory.
