HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss opens its final week of the regular season, four home games over a five-day span, when they entertain Ole Miss in a 6 p.m., contest Tuesday at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field.
Â
The game can be seen via ESPN+ as well as heard through the Southern Miss Sports Network with audio also available through SouthernMiss.com.
Â
The Golden Eagles (34-17) currently enjoy a season-high seven-game winning streak after outscoring Arkansas State 38-11 in a three-game sweep in Jonesboro, Ark., last weekend. The Rebels (27-24) took two of three at home from nationally ranked league foe Texas A&M.
Â
This will be the second meeting between the two clubs this season with the Rebels taking an 8-3 decision at Trustmark Park in Pearl back in March. The Golden Eagles look to snap a five-game losing streak to their in-state rival as well as snap a three-game skid at home to the Rebels. Southern Miss last beat Ole Miss at home, 5-3, during the 2019 campaign.
Â
Southern Miss has played well at home in 2024, posting a 22-5 record, marking the ninth-straight time - not counting 2020 due to COVID - that they have won 20 or more home games in a season. Earlier this month, the Golden Eagles also clinched their 22nd consecutive 30-win season, giving them the longest current streak in Division I baseball. Southern Miss has produced 30 or more victories in 37 of the last 38 seasons.
Â
Senior designated hitter Slade Wilks has paced the Golden Eagle offense as of last with his current career-best 24 game hitting streak, which ranks tied for sixth longest at the school. He is hitting .375 (36-for-96) over this span with eight doubles, a triple, eight home runs, 20 runs and 32 RBI. He has seven, two-hit contests, one, three-hit affair and one four-hit game. The school record for a hitting streak is 41 games set by Todd Nace during the 1991 campaign.
Â
Junior shortstop Ozzie Pratt is also swinging a hot bat, owing a nine-game hitting streak of his own. During his streak, he is hitting .525 (21-for-40) with four doubles, a triple, a home run and eight RBI to go along with 14 runs scored.
Â
Following the Ole Miss contest, the Golden Eagles finish the regular season with a three-game Sun Belt Conference home series with Texas Sate. The set gets underway with a 6 p.m., tilt Thursday.
