Golden Eagles Finish GSU Diggn’ Duals

ATLANTA – Southern Miss beach volleyball finished day two of the GSU Diggin' Duals tournament with two close matches against ranked competition. The Golden Eagles fell to No. 17 Stetson and No. 15 Georgia State to close out their weekend in the Peach State.
No. 17 Stetson 3, Southern Miss 2
Southern Miss was tied at 1-1 after the first wave of play, needing just two more dual wins to get the program's first win over a ranked opponent. Stetson won at the 1s and 2s to clinch the set, but Southern Miss fought at the third pair to win their second point.
Ola Chudzik and Valeria Siakidou Papakyriakou clinched a two-set win at the 4s and were joined by Madison Cassidy and Sarah Murczek's win at the third pairing.
No. 15 Georgia State 5, Southern Miss 0
While 5-0 decision at its face does not appear close, Southern Miss was more than in these games throughout the competition.
Georgia State took the first point at the fifth pair and had to fight back for a three-set win on courts four and five. Additionally, Dylan Russell and Ashlyn Rough pushed the Panthers to the limit at the 2s. Ultimately, Chudzik and Murczek ell in three sets at the third pair and Cassidy and Siakidou Papakyriakou fell in three at the 4s.

Southern Miss heads to Birmingham next weekend for the two-day UAB Blazer Beach Bash. Competition begins on Saturday, April 13, at 8 a.m. against Mercer.
