
Beach Volleyball Collects Sun Belt Victory at UAB Blazer Beach Bash

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Golden Eagles defeated Mercer 3-2 in the day's opening match to move for Southern Miss' third Sun Belt conference win of the season. Madison Cassidy and Valeria Siakidou Papakyriakou enjoyed an undefeated weekend, going 3-0 across the fourth and fifth pairings.
Southern Miss 3, Mercer 2
The Golden Eagles collected their third Sun Belt win of the season with a 3-2 victory over Mercer. The Bears squeaked out wins on courts four and three but were unable to contain Southern Miss as the Golden Eagles won in straight sets at the 1s, 2s and 5s.
Laurel Dennis and Sadie McAda improved to 14-15 as a pair and 3-4 on the year as the top flight. Ola Chudzik and Sarah Murczek played in their 21st overall match and first as the second flight pairing, improving to 8-13 on the year. Madison Cassidy and Valeria Siakidou Papakyriakou played their first match as the fifth pair and moved to 6-10 on the year.
Southern Miss moved to 13-18 overall and 3-5 in Sun Belt action.
(RV) North Alabama 4, Southern Miss 1
Cassidy and Papakyriakou teamed at the fifth pairing again and secured Southern Miss' only win of the match, winning in straight sets after a 27-25 second set win.
Chudzik/Murczek fell in the third set at the 2s with the Golden Eagles falling just short across the other three scored matches. The loss moved the Golden Eagles to 13-19 on the year ahead of their final match against host UAB.
(RV) UAB 4, Southern Miss 1
Southern Miss wrapped the day with a 4-1 loss to UAB, dropping the team to 13-20 overall. The duo of Madison Cassidy and Valeria Siakidou Papakyriakou stayed undefeated, topping the Blazers' fourth pairing in two sets.
UAB collected wins at the first, second, third and fifth pairs to seal the match, 4-1.

Southern Miss closes the regular season on Friday, April 19, at Tulane's NOLA Classic. The Golden Eagles take on No. 6 Cal Poly, ULM and (RV) Tulane all in Elmwood, La., at the White Sands Volleyball Courts.
