
Beach Volleyball Closes Regular Season at Tulane’s NOLA Classic

ELMWOOD, La. – Southern Miss beach volleyball came extremely close to upsetting No. 4 Cal Poly and (RV) Tulane and ran to a win over ULM in their final tournament of the year. The Golden Eagles end the regular season 14-22 overall and 4-5 in Sun Belt play. The 2024 season saw Southern Miss win its second-most games in a regular season and set a new record in conference wins.
No. 4 Cal Poly 3, Southern Miss 2
Southern Miss gave the fourth-ranked Mustangs all they could handle, defeating Cal Poly's second and fourth pairs to force a decisive point. Eventually, Cal Poly rebounded to form and was able to close out the match.
Sarah Murczek and Ola Chudzik won their second pairing battle as Ashlyn Rough and Dylan Russell took the 4s in three sets.
Southern Miss 4, ULM 1
The Golden Eagles came two points short of the sweep of the Warhawks. Southern Miss took wins in straight sets at the 1s, 2s and 5s. Valeria Siakidou Papakyriakou and Madison Cassidy won in three sets as the third pairing.
Laurel Dennis and Sadie McAda got their first win of the weekend as the top flight while Chudzik and Murczek stayed perfect on the day. Rough and Russell also continued their spotless performance as the Golden Eagles' fifth pairing.
(RV) Tulane 3, Southern Miss 2
The Green Wave held off Southern Miss' upset attempt as three different pairs went to a third set. Southern Miss finished 2-1 in those third sets to take its only two points of the evening as Tulane took the match thanks to a fourth set win.
Chudzik and Murzek finished 3-0 on the day, winning all three duals as the second pair. Cassidy and Papakyriakou picked up their second win to finish Southern Miss' scoring on the day. Madison Baldridge and Wiio Meinheit also collected an exhibition win in three sets.

Southern Miss awaits its seeding from the Sun Belt Conference ahead of next week's conference championships. The Golden Eagles will open tournament play in Huntsville, Ala., on Thursday, April 25.
