
Golden Eagles Sweep Opening Day of Beachburg Invitational

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss finished the first day of the 2024 Beachburg Invitational 3-0 after sweeping Mobile and Nicholls and downing Spring Hill 3-2. The Golden Eagles finished the day undefeated at the second, third and fifth pairings and move to 9-14 overall.
Southern Miss 5, Mobile 0
The Golden Eagles swept the Rams across all six courts, winning in two sets on four and taking a three-set win on the first and fourth pairs. The win was the first in as many games against the Rams as the two programs met for the first time.
Southern Miss 5, Nicholls 0
Southern Miss completed its second sweep of the day with a 5-0 win over Nicholls. Only one pair needed three sets to down the Colonels as Ashlyn Rough and Emmie Koszalka clipped the Colonels 15-11 in the third.
The Golden Eagles won in straight sets on the other four scoring pair while the exhibition group of Wiio Meinheit and Torrey Tkach defeated a pair of Loyola-New Orleans players.
Southern Miss 3, Spring Hill 2
One of Southern Miss' most-played opponents, the Golden Eagles played three third sets to defeat Spring Hill 3-2. Madison Cassidy and Ella Rodriguez won in two sets at the fifth pair while Madison Baldridge and Valeria Siakidou Papakyriakou fell in three sets to make the score 1-1 after wave one.
In the second wave, Southern Miss used a Laurel Dennis/Sadie McAda clean sheet to take a 2-1 lead. Spring Hill, though, responded with a win at the top flight, culminating in a 17-15 third set decision.
Morgan Perry and Dylan Russell won 15-13 in set three, sealing the point, set and match for Southern Miss.
