
Beach Volleyball Finished Undefeated Weekend at Beachburg Invitational

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss' only home weekend culminated in a perfect 6-0 performance by the Golden Eagles, highlighted by a high-stakes three-set win by Valeria Siakidou Papakyriakou and Madison Cassidy to take a 3-2 win over Spring Hill. The Golden Eagles also swept Loyola New Orleans and downed Nicholls 4-1 to stay perfect in the tournament.
Southern Miss 5, Loyola New Orleans 0
The Golden Eagles opened the day with a perfect performance against Loyola New Orleans, winning in straight sets across all six duals. Wiio Meinheit and Dylan Russell cruised to a 21-5 and 21-6 win at the fourth pair, outscoring Loyola 42-11 over the two sets.
Southern Miss 3, Spring Hill 2
The Sandy Badgers took the first two points of the match at the 4s and 5s, meaning Southern Miss needed to sweep the second wave of competition. Ola Chudzik and Sarah Murczek won handily at the top flight in two sets, followed by Ashlyn Rough and Dylan Russell's two-set win at the 3s.
Tied at 2-2, all attention shifted to Papakyriakou and Cassidy at the second paring. The duo had to win a second set to force a third and did just that. Southern Miss' No. 2s ran away with a 15-7 win to give Southern Miss its third point of the afternoon and fifth win of the weekend.
Southern Miss 4, Nicholls 1
Nicholls made things interesting early as they collected a two-set win at the 4s to tie the match at 1-1. Southern Miss did not flinch, winning the next two duals to win the match with the third pairs still to go.
At the threes, Sarah Murczek and Carmen Sanchez Delgado played a three-set thriller to end the overall day. The two pairs combined to outscore Nicholls 64-59, falling 26-28 in the first set before winning 23-21 and 15-10 to win the point.
