Southern Miss Ready for First Home Action at Beachburg Invitational

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Golden Eagle beach volleyball returns to action on Friday, March 29, as they host their first and only home event of the year, the Beachburg Invitational. The two-day event begins at 10 a.m. tomorrow at the Southern Miss Beach Volleyball Complex with the Golden Eagles taking on Mobile.

Mobile makes its first trip to Hattiesburg in its program history and for the first match between Southern Miss and the Rams. UM has a record of 5-8 and finished last week 1-2 in the Sun Conference's Central Pod round up in Gulf Shores, Ala.

Southern Miss entertains the Colonels for two matches this weekend in Hattiesburg. The Golden Eagles lead the overall series 5-0 and are 3-0 against Nicholls on home sand. The Colonels are 6-18 overall after a winless slate of five matches at last week's Southland Conference roundup.

The Sandy Badgers and Golden Eagles meet for their 14th and 15th meetings in the series history with Spring Hill holding a 7-6 advantage. Southern Miss, though, has won the last three games between the two programs.

The first meeting between the two is set for 4 p.m. on Friday as Southern Miss' final match of the day. SHC finished last weekend 2-3 at the Palm Beach Atlantic Invitational in West Palm Beach, Fla.

The Golden Eagles open Saturday with a 9 a.m. first serve against Loyola, who are out to an impressive 8-8 start and stand at 7-3 in the Sun Conference. This will be the first meeting between Loyola and Southern Miss.

SENIOR NIGHT
The Golden Eagles will celebrate seniors Sarah Murczek and Valeria Siakidou Papakyriakou after the 5 p.m. match against Nicholls on Saturday, March 30. Festivities will begin at approximately 7 p.m. with a reception to take place at the Southern Miss Wellness Center.
