Golden Eagles Complete Beach Invitational

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Southern Miss beach volleyball fell in two matches to close out its participation in the 2024 Beach Invitational, hosted by Long Beach State. Southern Miss narrowly fell to Santa Clara and finished the competition with a loss to No. 11 Cal Poly.
The Golden Eagles (4-8, 1-0 Sun Belt) opened the day against Santa Clara, Southern Miss' only opponent not ranked within the AVCA's weekly poll. The Broncos were able to clean up on the lower three duals, winning at the third, fourth and fifth pairing. The fourth pairing of Dylan Russell and Ashlyn Rough went to three sets but were unable to take the decisive point. At the top two flights, Ola Chudzik and Sarah Murczek won in three sets at the first pairing and Sadie McAda and Laurel Dennis won at the twos.
Competition closed with a bout against No. 11 Cal Poly, which the nationally-ranked Mustangs won in a 5-0 decision.

Southern Miss' next weekend tournament takes the Golden Eagles to Youngsville, La., for Southeastern's Sugar Beach Bash. Southern Miss will take on Sun Belt member Stephen F. Austin, New Orleans, UAB and host Southeastern with competition beginning on Friday, March 15.
